Perception is everything. Credibility is in question. The world is watching us, America. The world is built on many stake holders, who have different values and perspectives. The current American leadership in the world is slipping.

This is the latest poll survey report that was released today June 29, 2025 by the Yomiuri Shimbun, one of the leading daily news papers in Japan. The survey was made during June 27 through June 29. While poll results do not reflect the reality and we need to understand its context, it reflects the perception of the people on any issues and the changes of their perceptions. if the questions were simply put. The Yomiuri’s survey question was whether you trust the US.

The bottom line of the Yomiuri’s survey was that only 22% of the Japanese people trust the U.S. And 68% responded that they don’t. Comparing with 34% positive figures surveyed last year in November 2024, when Trump won the presidential election, 22% is considered quite a drop in only less than 9 months. The negatives have been increased from 55% to 68%.

The Yomiuri reported the suspected reason of the change is not only the U.S import tariff issue with Japan, but also our president’s quotes and words circulated through the media that are not consistent in the middle of geopolitical instability in Ukrane-Russia and the Middle East.

The leadership and trustworthiness are supposed to be built on and improve its consistent and proper communication on his/her strategy clearly. I think communicating with all the stakeholders in crisp and clear terms is one of the most important elements in integrity.

Coincidentally, this month, the Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile released their first processed amazing digital pictures of small part of the universe. These digitally taken and processed pictures of the universe have just kicked-off the obvervatory’s upcoming ten-years project. The more we learn about the universe, the more I think we should not waste our time. The world is big and we are small. In the end, we are just a stardust. But integrity matters and trustworthiness matters. America, we are watched.
